As teacher candidates learn about the ILA standards that provide guidance to teachers of all disciplines for supporting the literacy development of adolescents in grades 4-12, they respond by completing assignments that allow them to exhibit proficiency in their understanding of and preparation for carrying their knowledge of the standards into their future instruction. Teacher candidates are guided through this course to understand that, while they are not reading teachers, they do have a responsibility to support the literacy development of their students. Guidance and assignments in the course provide scaffolding that allows all teacher candidates to understand their role in delivering instruction that will allow their students to utilize the Interdis ciplinary Literacy Practices the Kentucky Department of Education designed and released in 2019.
