DISC 595 Disaster Science Capstone 3 Hours (repeatable max of 6 hrs)
The Disaster Science Capstone course serves as the culminating experience for graduate students, integrating the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their program into a comprehensive applied project. Students will design, implement, and present a research-based or practice-oriented project that addresses a contemporary issue in disaster science, such as emergency management systems, community resilience, hazard mitigation, or crisis communication. Emphasis is placed on advanced problem-solving, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the application of evidence-based strategies to real-world disaster challenges. The course culminates with a formal written report and/or professional presentation demonstrating mastery of disaster science theory, research, and applied practice.

DISC 598 Research Methods for Disaster Science 3 Hours
This course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research approaches used to study disasters and their impacts. Emphasizing both theoretical and applied perspectives, the course explores research design, data collection and analysis, ethical considerations, and the translation of findings into evidence-based policy and practice.

DISC 599 Thesis Research and Writing 1-6 Hours (repeatable max of 6 hrs)
This course guides students through the process of developing, researching, and writing a scholarly thesis that demonstrates mastery of research design, critical analysis, and academic writing.
Prerequisite(s): DISC 598 with a minimum grade of B
